How To Determine if Someone Has a History of Crime in St Lucie County Florida
Running a free criminal record check can give you valuable insight into someone’s history — including information on charges and convictions, warrants, and possible probation sentences.
When looking for St Lucie County criminal records, the best place to start is with the County Clerk of Court. This office maintains records pertaining to felony cases heard by the St Lucie County Circuit Court, as well as misdemeanors tried by the County Court.
Perform a Criminal History Record Check via the St Lucie County Circuit Court Clerk’s Online Search Tool
The Clerk of the Circuit Court’s website features a Case Search Tool that you can use to look up a wide variety of St Lucie public records. These include St Lucie County court records related to felonies, misdemeanors, and traffic violations. Therefore, if you want to look up someone’s criminal record, this is a great place to start.
Entering a search subject’s name will yield an online directory of people with that name who are associated with a court case heard by either the Circuit Court or the County Court. The listing also includes the year of each person’s birth, which helps to narrow down the results when searching with a popular name.
Each name is linked to a list of cases involving the individual in question.
To find out more about a particular case, you can choose a hot-linked case number. However, be aware that other types of court cases might be included in the list. For example, a recent search that specified “Criminal Felony” records also yielded Civil Traffic court case information as well.
The case page will include plenty of details, including a list of charges, court events, and case dockets. You can view, download, and print related documents that have either the purple eye or blue page icon next to them.
To view documents that have a pink “Request” box next to them, you must first register for a free online account. Once you have gone through the Individual Registration Process and submitted an e-signature, the Clerk’s office will contact you by email with a username and password.
However, keep in mind that you won’t be able to access the site to request documents with your login credentials for 24 hours after receiving the email. After that, you may go online and request access to certain court documents.
Within one business day of your request, you will receive a confirmation email. You must wait another 24 hours after that to view the documents through the St Lucie County Case Search Tool.
Requesters can also submit an online records request to order copies of court documents. Or they can request copies of criminal court records from the Clerk’s Office by emailing [email protected] or by faxing 772.462.6908.
Alternatively, if you’re local to St Lucie County, you can visit the Clerk’s Office in person to order records:
St Lucie County Clerk & Comptroller
201 South Indian River Drive
Fort Pierce, FL 34950
Records ordered directly from the Clerk’s Office cost $1 per page. Certification costs $3.50 in statutory and service fees plus $1 per page, and exemplification (which involves attaching an official seal and the Clerk’s pen-in-hand signature) costs an extra $7 per record.
You can pay for the document with a business or cashier’s check or a money order made payable to “St Lucie County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller” mailed to:
St Lucie County Clerk
Attn: Research Dept., 4th Fl.
P.O. Box 700
Fort Pierce, FL 34954
After you’ve requested the desired records and the Clerk has received your payment, it takes two to seven business days for your order to be filled (depending on the complexity of the research required).
Once you know a case number for the record you’re looking for, you can also order electronically certified (e-certified) records using the third-party Clerk E-Certify service. You’ll need to have an account with the Clerk’s Office in order to use this system.
Record copies ordered through E-Certify cost $8 ($2 for a statutory fee and $6 for a vendor fee) plus $1 per page, which is payable online with a credit card. You’ll receive the electronically certified files in your email inbox in two to seven business days.

The Florida Department of Corrections oversees probation services for individuals who have been convicted of felonies. You can find out if someone is on probation by running a search using the Corrections Offender Network Supervised Population Information Search.5 You can enter the name of the person in question or leave the search fields empty to see a complete list of current Florida felony probationers.

Conduct a Background Check in St Lucie County FL
If you want to know more about someone’s potential criminal history, it can help to conduct what’s known as a background check. Basically, background checks are performed by looking up public records.
You can use all of the St Lucie County public records searches outlined in this resource to perform a name-based background check. Checks conducted for reasons such as to find out more information about someone you’d like to date or someone who just moved into your neighborhood are considered personal background checks. You can conduct one at any time for any reason without contacting the subject of the check first.
On the other hand, background checks that are conducted for business reasons — such as for pre-employment screenings, licensing purposes, etc. — are considered professional background checks. By law — the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) — you must have the prior consent of the subject before starting one.6
If you believe that you are the victim of a background check that violates FCRA, try contacting the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or the Federal Trade Commission for assistance.7, 8
In addition to running a free public records search using the information in this article, you can order a background check from the St Lucie County Sheriff’s Office. These checks should be used for personal reasons only and cost $12 per report.
You can order a criminal history report by using the Background Check Request Form online. The website accepts credit or debit card payments. Once your order has been processed, it typically takes three to five business days to receive your report by mail.
In addition, you can request a criminal record search from the Criminal Department of the St Lucie County Clerk of the Circuit Court. The office charges $1 for each year’s worth of records to be searched, plus a $1 fee per copy. If you wish to have the results certified, that will cost an additional $2.
The office accepts cash, money orders, and cashier’s checks. For more information, contact the Criminal Department using the following information:
St Lucie County Clerk of Circuit Court – Criminal Dept.
201 S. Indian River Dr., 3rd Fl.
Fort Pierce, FL 34950
Phone: 772.462.6900
Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It’s also possible to order a background check from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE). This may be a good option for you if you want to check someone’s history throughout the state, not just in St Lucie County.
The department offers the following three background check options:
- FDLE Criminal History on the Internet (CCHInet) Search: This is a self-service search that costs $25. Anyone can use it to look up an individual’s criminal history in Florida; results will be sent to the requesters via email.
- State of Florida Criminal History Record Check: This option also searches a database of Florida criminal history records. However, unlike the CCHInet search, the results will be mailed to your address. These searches cost $24 each.
- Originating Agency Identification (ORI) Search: These professional background searches are available only to members of authorized agencies. You must have a valid ORI number in order to conduct a search using this method. Costs for these searches vary per agency.
For more information, you can contact FDLE’s Criminal History Services Section by phone at 850.410.8161 or via email at [email protected]. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

First, you can use the St Lucie County Property Appraiser’s Real Estate Property Search Tool. You can opt to search by the owner’s name, by property address, by sales information, by parcel, or by subdivision.17
No matter which search method you use, you can download a Truth in Millage (TRIM) document with information about the property’s tax history. By selecting “Map” you can get a rough idea of the property’s location (it’s important to remember that tax maps are not necessarily accurate and shouldn’t be used in place of official survey maps).
You can also view a “Record Card” that contains a wealth of details about the property, including the owner’s name and mailing address, details on structures located on the property, assessed values, tax estimates, permits, sales history, and more. You can even view a photograph of the property.
For more information, you can contact the Appraiser’s office at:
St Lucie County Property Appraiser

Ethical Use of St Lucie County Public Records: Know Your Rights
Thanks to the U.S. Freedom of Information Act and Florida’s Public Records Law, members of the public have the right to request access to many kinds of public records.19, 20 However, you must never use the information about another person gained from a search of public records in an unlawful manner.
That means you can’t use someone’s information in order to commit a crime such as harassment or identity theft, but it also means you can’t use information learned through a records search for professional reasons — such as making a hiring, licensing, or rental decision — without first having the consent of the subject. To do so would violate the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).6
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Federal Trade Commission are two federal agencies that can help if you believe you’ve been the victim of discrimination due to an unlawful background check.7, 8
Other good resources include the Florida Commission on Human Relations, which seeks to end workplace discrimination, as well as the St Lucie County Department of Human Resources, which allows users to file discrimination complaints.21, 22
That said, conducting a responsible search of St Lucie County public records can be a valuable way to gain more insight into someone’s past or present; if you need records from outside of St. Lucie County, you can expand the scope of your search to include looking up all Florida public records.
